As a service to our clientele we have compiled a list of some of the most frequently asked questions below.

HOW MUCH CAN I GET FOR MY DIAMOND?

Obviously this is the single most important question when you are considering selling a piece of diamond jewelry. The value of a diamond is primarily determined by its 4C's:

CARAT: How much does the diamond weigh?
COLOR: Does the diamond look yellow?
CLARITY: Can you see any 'stuff' in the diamond?
CUT: How well does a diamond reflect light?

Once these four factors are known, we can determine how much your diamond is worth.

HOW MUCH CAN I GET FOR MY GOLD ?

Gold is valued buy its purity and weight. Pure gold is known as 24k gold, but most jewelry is made from either 18k gold, 14k gold or 10k gold.

The K stands for karat (abbreviation ct or Kt) - a measure of the purity of gold alloys. Outside the US and Canada the spelling carat is used, while in the US carat is used to refer to the gemstone mass

There is a little math involved, but simply put 24-karat gold is fine (99.9% pure), 18-karat gold is 75% gold, and 12-karat gold is 50% gold, with the other percentage being an alloy to give greater strength.

Yellow gold is the most popular color of gold, but by mixing gold with special alloys jewelers can create other colors, such as white, pink, or rose gold.

For more information on gold's measurments see this Wikipedia article.

HOW DO I GET PAID?

We pay you in cash, check, or money transfer directly into your bank account.

WILL YOU TAKE THE DIAMOND OUT OF MY RING?

If your diamond is currently set into a ring or other piece of jewelry, it will be inspected by a gemologist in the setting. We will not remove the diamond from its setting for the inspection.

Should you decide not to sell us your diamond, the diamond or jewelry would be returned to you in its original condition.

WHAT IS A CERTIFICATE?

A certificate is a diamond grading report issued by an independent laboratory detailing the diamond's weight, dimensions, color, clarity and cut.

The GIA (Gemological Institute of America) and EGL (European Gemological Laboratory), whose standards are the strictest in the diamond industry, are the undisputed international authorities on diamond grading and gem identification. The GIA issues a Diamond Grading Report or Diamond Dossier.

The EGL calls their report a Diamond Certificate.

IS A CERTIFICATE THE SAME THING AS AN APPRAISAL?

No. A diamond appraisal is the opinion of an individual appraiser as to the quality of a diamond and his/her opinion as to the monetary cost of replacing the stone. An appraisal is useful only as a tool for the insurance industry when a customer needs something replaced due to loss or theft.

Appraisals are typically far above the actual retail cost of a diamond. In contrast, a certificate is issued by an independent laboratory that has had one or more staff members evaluate the stone for its specific quality.

A certificate contains no price estimates; it is simply the assessment of the lab as to the exact quality of the diamond you are selling.
